We are looking for someone who leads and develops high-performing engineering teams while ensuring successful delivery of quality software solutions. This role is responsible for driving technical excellence, talent development, project execution, engineering best practices, and client engagement while aligning technology initiatives with business objectives and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Job Details:

  • Workplace:  On-site (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

  • Experience Required: 10+ years in software engineering, including 7+ years of hands-on development
  • Salary: MYR 15,000 – 20,000/monthly (Negotiable based on skills and experience)
  • Must-Have: Engineering leadership, client-facing delivery experience, mobile project delivery experience (React Native preferred), full-stack knowledge, cloud understanding, and excellent communication skills.

Job Description:

People Leadership & Engineering Growth 

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to software engineers to help them perform at a high standard.
  • Foster a team environment built on ownership, accountability, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
  • Hold regular one-on-one discussions, identify growth areas, and support individual career development plans.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and technical collaboration through code reviews, technical discussions, pair programming, and internal learning sessions.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation by encouraging the effective use of AI tools and modern engineering practices within development workflows.

Talent Acquisition & People Development 

  • Oversee technical hiring, including planning, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Define roles, career paths, and growth frameworks.
  • Attract and retain top-tier engineering talent aligned with our values.

Project Execution & Delivery Oversight 

  • Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Partner with project managers and clients to plan and track delivery.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent client projects, ensuring quality and performance.
  • Uphold coding standards, security, and usability best practices.

Technical Strategy & Process Improvement

  • Establish and continuously improve technical architecture, engineering tools, and development workflows.
  • Encourage modern engineering practices such as test-driven development, CI/CD, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen the contribution of SDETs by improving test coverage, automation efficiency, and overall software quality.

Client Communication & Stakeholder Partnership 

  • Act as the senior technical point of contact for clients.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions and delivery plans.
  • Proactively manage client expectations and risks.
  • Lead technical reviews, post-mortems, and retrospectives for improvement.

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong ownership and accountability in managing engineering delivery, team performance, and project outcomes.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset, especially under delivery pressure.
  • Capable of translating business and client objectives into clear technical execution plans, delivery milestones, and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong leadership, people management, mentoring, and team-building capability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work closely with clients, project managers, product teams, and senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making ability in both technical and operational situations.
  • Ability to identify delivery risks, resource gaps, quality issues, and process bottlenecks early, and take corrective action.
  • Strong understanding of software delivery, agile execution, engineering productivity, client servicing, and operational scaling.
  • Experience working with international clients, outsourcing businesses, or professional software services companies will be preferred.
  • Must be highly proactive, disciplined, result-oriented, and committed to building a high-performing engineering culture.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, performance optimization, and memory/battery management.
  • Full-stack experience across frontend and backend systems, with cloud knowledge across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Skilled in Git, CI/CD, and modern testing practices.

Leadership & Process:

  • Proven ability to hire, mentor, and scale engineering teams.
  • Strong grasp of agile delivery, sprint planning, and team velocity tracking.
  • Experience running code reviews, technical workshops, and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with engineering KPIs such as deployment frequency, defect rates, and delivery predictability.
